The iconic Abbey Road Studios in London has teamed up with GAY TIMES to celebrate queer voices in the creative arts to mark this year’s Pride season.
Abbey Road Equalise for Pride is a series of exclusive performance films in association with GAY TIMES, that illuminate a diverse range of queer voices across music and the wider creative arts.
The series will spotlight emerging artists in music and the creative arts through performances and interviews filmed at Abbey Road Studios.
It continues Abbey Road Studios’ history and vision of celebrating creativity and queer expression.
Special films featuring Baby Queen, Tom Rasmussen, L Devine, BULLYACHE, Charles and Harry Strange will debut throughout the summer as Pride celebrations continue to take place across the UK.
Baby Queen is the first artist to be featured in the series, delivering a special performance of her new single Dream Girl, which was filmed in Studio Two at Abbey Road Studios.
“There are so many queer artists right now that are creating such phenomenal music,” Baby Queen tells GAY TIMES.
“I feel like it’s the first time that queer artists are really being able to step to the front of the stage in a way that their queerness is not affecting their success and music. In fact, it’s actually propelling them.”
Baby Queen has quickly become a queer favourite in the UK through her infectious pop hooks, and last year released Colours of You, a track written specifically for Netflix’s global hit LGBTQ+ drama Heartstopper.
Icons who have previously recorded at Abbey Road Studios include The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Frank Ocean, Amy Winehouse, Little Simz, Adele, Brockhampton, Sam Smith and Florence + The Machine.
“Over the last four years, Abbey Road Equalise has sought to inspire and empower under-represented groups exploring a career in music,” says Mark Robertson, Head of Brand & Communications.
“We’ve presented free workshops and mentoring, filmed studio sessions and more, whether via our annual events for International Women’s Day or a special event for International Transgender Day of Visibility in 2021.
“For Pride 2023, we wanted to create a season of films to showcase and elevate some of the brilliant queer artists and creatives forging their own unique path.”
