How absolutely fabulous is it that a new Ab Fab “related” project could potentially have a complete first draft by the end of the year? (Queue the internal squeal of delight).
In a recent episode of Titting About, Jennifer’s comedy podcast alongside Dawn French, the Emmy Award winning comedian revealed the next iteration will contain “some Ab Fab-ness, but not totally Ab Fab” and will be a “film or a series”.
Inspired by the original muse, Jennifer explained her conviction and “need to write a film, or a series based on Ab Fab,” continuing: “I want to do something related.”
Dawn pushed and asked the question we were all thinking, when can we expect this? Could the first draft be written by “the end of this year?” Jennifer confirmed: “Yes. Why not? I’m doing nothing after [this]! Can we say first draft, please?”
Dawn then informed listeners: “She’s shaking on it! That’s a deal! A new Ab Fab product!”
Critical to the show’s line up is Joanna Lumley, who played Patsy Stone. When asked if she will return, Jennifer replied: “Possibly”.
The potential for an Ab Fab revival was originally off the cards. In 2016, Jennifer dashed all hopes of a series revival after telling Daily Mail: “I’m not doing anything more with Ab Fab. That’s it. That. Is. It. I can’t see the point of doing anything else with it, really.
“Hmm, yes. It just takes so long. There’s lots of other stuff I’d like to do. Plus I’d like to spend time with my grandchildren.”
All hope was not lost (and now justifiably so) when Ab Fab icons Jennifer and Joanna reunited for a glamourous Absolutely Champers TV documentary, in 2017.
The BBC Two show followed the two stars as they roamed around France, learning the process of making champagne (whilst drinking it) and getting p***ed – how very on brand.
Over the course of the episode, the two drank more champagne, reminisced some more, drank a bit more champagne, and answered the most important question of all: will Eddy and Patsy return?
Jennifer said: “They never go away, do they? Every time we meet, we have an idea that makes us laugh about Eddy and Patsy. So they live on.”
Absolutely Fabulous ran for five seasons, 39 episodes and eight specials from 1992-2012.
The series spawned a feature film, which was released in 2016 to highly positive reviews.
At the time of the film’s release Jennifer confirmed that she was “done with Absolutely Fabulous”, again wanting to turn her attention to other projects.
How absolutely fabulous, we can’t wait!
