Christmas has finally come early – Cher has dropped her new single ‘DJ Play A Christmas Song’ ahead of her first ever Christmas album (gasp).
After a month waiting for release details, a little sprinkle of Christmas magic has been cast over spooky season with the official confirmation of her new album Christmas. Available 20 October, lead single ‘DJ Play A Christmas Song’ is out now.
Although Cher floated the question 34 years ago whether it was possible to turn back time, the answer is – yes! Cher has rejoined forces with her longtime collaborator and producer Mark Taylor (Believe) to create Christmas.
This is her first album in five years and will feature 13 songs compiled of originals and covers of festive favourites alongside pals, both old and new.
Fans can look forward to a multitude of star power duets including ‘What Christmas Means To Me’ with Stevie Wonder, ‘Home’ with Michael Bublé and ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ with Darlene Love. The latter was first recorded with Phil Spector and a 17-year-old Cher, who sung backing vocals.
In an unexpected twist, Cher collaborates with Tyga on ‘Drop Top Sleigh Ride’ (a Sarah Hudson song) and ‘Angels in the Snow’ and ‘Put A Little Holiday in Your Heart’ with Cyndi Lauper.
Speaking on the upcoming festive release she said: “I never say this about my own records but I’m really proud of this one. It is one of the most amazing highlights of my career.”
It was a “personal dream come true” to have the opportunity to record her duet with Wonder, “every time I hear that harmonica, I’m a teenager again.”
When the news of the single release broke Cher took to Twitter and delighted fans with the words: “DJ PLAY A CHRISTMAS SONG FOR THE [world emoji].”
