Bryan Singer has reacted to Bohemian Rhapsody’s double Golden Globes win at last night’s ceremony, after not being in attendance.
The director was fired from production of the Freddie Mercury biopic before it wrapped filming, with Dexter Fletcher brought in to complete the project with just two weeks before it was completed.
Back in 2017 when the firing was announced, Fox said that Singer was let go after unexplained absences from set.
Due to DGA rules, Singer still had to be credited as the film’s director despite not completing the project on his own.
Rami Malek walked away with the Best Actor (Drama) prize at last night’s Golden Globes for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury, while Bohemian Rhapsody also won Best Film (Drama).
However, Singer wasn’t mentioned during both acceptance speeches, and wasn’t in attendance with the cast and crew on the evening.

The filmmaker did take to Instagram to react to the wins, writing: “What an honor. Thank you #HollywoodForeignPress.”
The caption was posted with a picture of Rami Malek and Ben Hardy filming Queen’s iconic I Want To Break Free music video for the film, while he looks on in the director’s chair.
Last month it was revealed that Bohemian Rhapsody has become the highest-grossing music biopic of all time domestically, internationally and worldwide, earning a total of $635 million at the box office.
Upon release, Bohemian Rhapsody received mixed reviews from critics for its historical inaccuracies and portrayal of Mercury’s life and sexuality.
What’s more, Universal Music Group (UMG) also announced that Bohemian Rhapsody has become the most streamed song from the 20th century, racking up a total of 1.6 billion streams.
Making the announcement, Sir Lucian Grange, UMG’s chairman and CEO, said: “Bohemian Rhapsody is one the greatest songs by one of the greatest bands in history.
“My congratulations to Queen and Jim Beach on an incredible achievement that is a testament to the enduring brilliance of Queen.”
