Nick Pauley, the dancer behind Deadpool and Wolverine’s praised NSYNC tribute, has recreated the routine shirtless.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster follows Ryan Reynolds’ pansexual, foul-mouthed mercenary as as he comes into conflict with the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and partners with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to save his universe.

The film, which has smashed the box office with the almost $600 million worldwide (so far), opens with a hilarious sequence in which Deadpool slaughters various TVA agents while recreating NSYNC’s choreography from the ‘Bye Bye Bye’ music video.

Reynolds later revealed that Pauley, a dancer, choreographer and content creator, was underneath the costume in the sequence credited as “Dancepool”.

In a video posted to social media, Pauley shared footage from his audition tape, which featured a text overlay of how his role in the film came to fruition.

“Back in February, I was visiting my parents house when I got a call from my agent saying, ‘I need you to learn BYE BYE BYE dance right now and send me a video,’” he wrote. “I can’t tell you what it’s for but it’s huge, so I started learning and practicing the dance from the music video.”

“Tbh it was kind of hard but I was under pressure to get it down quickly,” Pauley continued, before revealing that he found it difficult to perfect their “stomping” moves.

Pauley showed the final video he sent to the Deadpool and Wolverine team, which led to a “call saying that [they’re] interested”.

“I still had no clue what it was for, but I was excited,” he reminisced. “Two days later, I was asked to meet at a warehouse in Hollywood tomorrow to “try on the outfit”. When I walked into the studio, I saw Deadpool’s suit hanging on a rack. Immediately, I knew… this was a big deal.”

After trying on the outfit and sending footage to Ryan and the director, Shawn Levy, Pauley was told he “got the part” within an hour.

The video received two million views, while another, in which he performs the routine on a rooftop, is nearing 20 million. A third – with the caption “me literally all week” – sees Pauley sing and dance shirtless in a hotel room, before he takes the iconic choreography on the streets of New York.
