Various stars across the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise have shared messages of love and support to Katya, who is taking a career hiatus to focus on her sobriety.

In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday (9 April), the season seven and All Stars 2 contestant released the official statement: “Hi, everybody. There’s a saying for the active alcoholic or drug addict.

“The trajectory of the life course has three possible outcomes: a, jail; b, institutions; or c, death. Unfortunately, I find myself squarely and firmly and quite uncomfortably in the ‘b’ camp right now.

“But, in an effort to make things good with you in the future, I gotta make things good for me right now.”

There were four remaining dates on The Bald and the Beautiful tour, which Katya co-hosts with comedy partner and fellow Drag Race alum Trixie Mattel: Cincinnati (9 May), Indianapolis (10 May), Albuquerque  (5 September) , and Sacramento (7 September).

Katya continued to assure her followers that “any rescheduled dates” for upcoming shows “or potential loss of money will be rectified as swiftly and competently as possible,” adding: “I gotta swiftly and competently rectify my ass right now. Thank you so much for your patience and compassion and I hope that you have a wonderful day.”

The Instagram page for Obsessed, a production company that specialises in LGBTQIA+ events, released the following statement: “When it comes to our talent, their mental and physical well being always has been and will remain our first priority. We wish Katya the best and send her our unwavering love and support as she navigates this step in her health.

“We appreciate your grace as we work to reschedule shows and focus on supporting our talent and friend. In order to respect both Katya and Trixie’s privacy at this time we will not be responding to social media comments. Katya has previously been open about her issues with addiction. In 2018, she announced a hiatus from drag and returned to live with family in Massachusetts, before checking into a rehab facility in Arizona.

Her Instagram post was flooded with messages of support from fellow Drag Race stars, such as Brooke Lynn Hytes, Divina De Campo, Gottmik, Hannah Conda, Jimbo, Priyanka, Scarlet Envy and The Vivienne.

We’re sending all our love to Katya right now.
