In the words of Laganja Estranja, “C’mon season 6, let’s get sickening!” because the new cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is here, H-E-R-E, here!
On 3 September, BBC Three unveiled the 12 queens in the running to usurp Ginger Johnson as Britain’s Next Drag Superstar: Actavia, Chanel O’Conor, Charra Tea, Dita Garbo, Kiki Snatch, Kyran Thrax, La Voix, Lill, Marmalade, Rileasa Slaves, Saki Yew and Zahirah Zapanta.
The series premieres in “Autumn” on BBC Three and iPlayer, and will once again see the return of RuPaul alongside regular panellists Michelle Visage, Graham Norton and Alan Carr.
According to a press release, there will be ten weeks of – we already know the sitch, but, anyway – “spicy challenges and iconic games designed to test their drag mettle, with the winner of the week being awarded a coveted RuPeter badge, and the bottoms of the week facing a lip-sync for their life and the risk of elimination.”
As is the case with each Drag Race UK season, it’s a star-studded affair with guest stars as follows: Alison Goldfrapp, AJ Odudu, Beverley Knight, Claire Richards, Kristen McMenamy, Mabel, Simon Le Bon MBE and Siobhán McSweeney.
There will be more famous faces throughout the series to assist the queens with various challenges. Alexandra Burke, The X Factor champion and star of West End’s Sister Act, will return as a vocal coach while choreographers Claudimar Neto and Aaron Renfree “put the queens through their dance paces”.
The winner of season six will join The Vivienne, Lawrence Chaney, Krystal Versace, Danny Beard and Ginger Johnson in the Drag Race UK Hall of Fame.
