The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, the upcoming Hunger Games prequel, has received its first trailer.
Based on Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same name, the fifth instalment in the acclaimed franchise follows a young President Snow (Tom Blyth) and his relationship with Hunger Games tribute Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler).
The official synopsis reads: “Years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol.
“With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.
“But, after Lucy Gray commands all of Panem’s attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favour.”
The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will also star Peter Dinklage as Casca Highbottom, Josh Andrés Rivera as Sejanus Plinth, Jason Schwartzman as Lucretius “Lucky” Flickerman, Viola Davis as Dr. Volumnia Gaul, Burn Gorman as Commander Hoff and Fionnula Flanagan as Grandma’am.
Additional cast members include Ashley Liao, Max Raphael, Zoe Renée, Nick Benson, Isobel Jesper Jones, Dakota Shapiro, Vaughan Reilly, Honor Gillies, Eike Onyambu, Konstantin Taffet, George Somner, Carl Spencer, Scott Folan and Michael Greco.
