Fans freak out after Connor Franta seemingly confirms Troye Sivan romance

Following years of rumours and detective work from online sleuths, Connor Franta has appeared to confirm that he once dated Troye Sivan.

In a recent interview on the web series Obsessed with Brooke Averick, Franta reflected on his love for Chappell Roan, revealing that he first became acquainted with the singer-songwriter in 2014.

“My lore with her is that her first ever YouTube video that she uploaded, I found it on YouTube with my boyfriend at the time,” he said.

“We found the song, it had like no plays, but her voice was unbelievable, so we started tweeting about it like, ‘This girl is incredible!’ We were like, ‘She’s the next Adele!'”

For those who are unaware of Franta and Sivan’s history, and why fans are taking the aforementioned comments as proof they dated, Sivan shared a link to Roan’s unreleased song ‘Die Young’ in November 2014.

Like Franta, he also hailed her as the next Adele as he wrote on X/Twitter: “LETS BLOW KAYLEIGH UP BC I HAVENT HEARD A VOICE LIKE THIS SINCE ADELE, NO EXAGGERATION”.

At the time, Franta replied: “YESSSSS GIVE THAT VOCALLY BLESSED GODESS HER WELL DESERVED PROMO”.

Franta’s comments sent the internet into meltdown mode. Many fans felt vindicated that their theories were true, while also celebrating the fact that Chappell Roan is the reason why it has been confirmed.

One fan wrote: “Ngl Connor Franta coming out and saying that him and Troye Sivan did in fact date for a bit, makes my queer little heart so happy.”

“Can’t believe we just got verbal confirmation that Troye Sivan and Connor Franta dated and the reason we found out was bc of Chappell Roan,” said another.

A third tweeted: “Chappell Roan has given us many things but the greatest gift her legacy has given humanity may have to be the Great 2024 Troye Sivan x Connor Franta relationship confirmation.”

2024 has been the breakout year for Roan.

Although her 2023 debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, was met with acclaim, she didn’t make an impact on the charts until the release of standalone single ‘Good Luck, Babe!’⁠

After becoming her breakout hit worldwide – it just reached a new peak of #6 in the US and #2 in the UK – various tracks from her debut album started climbing in popularity.

It’s a similar situation for The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, too, with “Gen-Z’s new pop bible” earning top five peaks in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand. In the UK and Ireland, it reached number-one.

On 1 August, Roan performed at Lollapalooza to universal praise and wide media coverage, with a spokesperson telling CNN that it was “the biggest daytime set we’ve ever seen”.

Sources close to Lollapalooza and Roan also told CNN that her set rivalled “many headliners” and is believed to be the biggest-ever Lollapalooza set “anywhere in the world”.⁠
