Drag superstar Shangela made her debut on Dancing with the Stars last night, with fans reacting to her historic performance on social media.

Shangela was confirmed for the 31st season of the celebrity dance competition, and is the first star to perform on the show in drag.

A few months before the 40-year-old’s debut, Courtney Act was the first drag performer on the franchise’s Australian counterpart.

She came in second place on the 19th series.

Shangela was partnered with professional ballroom dancer Gleb Savchenko.

The pair took to the dancefloor for the first time on 19 September and performed a high-energy salsa routine.

One fan tweeted: “Shangela killed it, no surprise. Excited to see her make it to finale night.”

Another wrote: “I’m so into gleb & shangela.”

The pair are fighting for a chance to take home the mirrorball trophy.
