Jonathan Bailey has opened up about his prosthetic penis for Fellow Travelers, and we are thoroughly intrigued.
Back in October 2023, LGBTQIA+ TV enthusiasts were treated to the critically acclaimed historical drama.
Based on Thomas Mallon’s novel, the show follows the volatile romance of Tim Laughlin (Bailey) and Hawkins Fuller (Matt Bomer), two very different men who meet in the shadow of McCarthy-era Washington.
Since its release, the show has received universal acclaim, with fans and critics praising the series for its stellar acting performances, gripping subject matter and dynamic scripts.
In addition to the aforementioned feats, the show has turned heads for its steamy gay sex scenes – which featured some eye-opening nudity from Bailey and Bomer.
In a recent interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Bailey spilt all the juicy details about the show’s sexual content – including his prosthetic penis.
When asked if he had a hand in picking his fake member, the Bridgerton star joked he had “just one hand” during the process.
“Obviously, for us, it’s a kind of mundane thing to talk about these sex scenes, but I know it’s fascinating. There are so many things that change with Tim the character,” he continued.
“You know, he grows hair, he had moustaches, but there was one thing that remained the same throughout and when we started, obviously, you wear a protective layer to protect yourself.
“But for the nature of the show, you want to choose something that maybe reflects what’s actually going on.”
After Meyers presented a photo of the prosthetic penis’ from the show, Bailey joked that they all had different personalities.

“When you’re approaching character, you think emotionally, cerebrally, and, you know, then you have to really make a big choice,” he said.
Meyers fired off one final joke on the topic by asking if Bailey made the “big choice” with his prosthetic penis, to which the latter responded, “No, no, no! I think it’s only fair; I believe in representation for everyone.”
Towards the end of his interview, the Wicked star opened up about a funny photo of his fake member and the wardrobe assistant who placed googly eyes on it.
“On the last day, Beth, my amazing wardrobe assistant, cheered me up,” he said between laughs. “I then got home, and I unpacked my suitcase to find [Little Timmy].”
Bailey’s recent interview comes a month after he and his Fellow Travelers co-star Bomer received an Emmy nomination for ‘Outstanding Actor’ an ‘Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie’.
In an emotional Instagram post, the beloved talent celebrated his nom, writing: “Playing Tim Laughlin was the experience of a lifetime, and I will carry him with me always.
“For this experience to be recognised in this way, and alongside ultimate leader Matt Bomer and the brilliant Ron Nyswaner, is truly beyond measure.”
All eight episodes of Fellow Travelers are now available on Paramount Plus in the UK and US.
