Netflix have released the first trailer for Special, a brand new eight-part comedy show loosely based on Ryan O’Connell’s part-memoir, part-manifesto I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves, and it looks hilarious.
The Jim Parsons-produced series, which premieres on the streaming service on 12 April, follows a gay man living with mild cerebral palsy who decides to rewrite his identity as an accident victim and finally go after the life he wants.
“I was in the closet about being gay, and then I was in the closet about being disabled, and now… no more closets,” he says in the trailer, which looks like it will be both hilarious and heartwarming at the same time.
Special will star Ryan as himself, alongside Jessica Hecht (Friends), Punam Patel (Adam Ruins Everything), Marla Mindelle, Augustus Prew (Pure Genius), and Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul).
