Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning work received 11 American theatre nominations – including Best Revival of a Play.
Now playing in New York City, the gay fantasia on national themes was revived at the National Theatre in London last year, later moving to Broadway.
Angels in America follows the lives of a group of New Yorkers as they grapple with life and death, love and sex and heaven and hell against the backdrop of the AIDS crisis in Reagan America in the mid-1980s.
The cast includes Andrew Garfield, Nathan Lane, Denise Gough and James McArdle.

Andrew Garfield is up for Best Actor in A Play, alongside fellow Brit Denise Gough for Best Featured Actress alongside Susan Brown.
Director Marianne Elliott is also up for Best Direction of A Play, alongside Broadway legend Nathan Lane as Best Featured Actor in A Play.
Other nominations include Best Score, Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, and Best Sound Design.
The show recently took home two prestigious gongs at the 2018 Olivier Awards, including Best Revival of a Play and Best Supporting Actress in a Play for Denise Gough.

Elsewhere, Tina Fey’s Mean Girls leads the musical nominations alongside Disney’s Frozen, SpongeBob SquarePants, Carousel, The Band’s Visit, and My Fair Lady. British-born play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is also nominated.
The Tony Awards will take place on 10 June at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban to host.
