Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts announced her 2023 plans to marry her longtime girlfriend, Amber Laign.

The openly gay journalist announced the exciting news while interviewing motivational speaker Gabby Bernstein on 2 January.

During their sit down, the best-selling author asked Roberts what she was saying “yes” to in 2023 – which resulted in a hesitant response from the co-anchor.

“I’m hesitating because I haven’t said it out loud yet. Okay, I’m saying yes to marriage. We’re getting married this year,” she revealed.

“It’s something we’ve talked about, but we had put it off because she became ill, but I’m saying yes to that and the next chapter.”

After Bernstein encouraged Roberts to meditate on her wedding day by making a vision board, the longstanding broadcaster clarified that she would be “meditating on the marriage, not the wedding.”

Shortly after uploading the interview to her Instagram, Roberts’ followers took to the comment section with congratulatory messages.

One person wrote: “I love this! I also loved the Robin called out meditating on the actual [marriage], which is way more important than the wedding day!”

Another person commented: “This made me cry with happiness to hear this news! I am so happy for you both! Congratulations to you and sweet Amber.”

Roberts and Laign’s love story first began in 2005, when the pair were set up on a blind date by friends.

In 2013, the acclaimed journalist came out as gay and made their relationship public in a Facebook post about her bone marrow transplant.

“I am grateful for my entire family, my longtime girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together,” she wrote at the time.

As Roberts mentioned in her recent interview, the two planned on getting married sooner but decided to hold off due to Laign’s breast cancer diagnosis.

“My sweet Amber wanted me to tell you something that she’s been facing. At the end of last year, Amber was diagnosed with breast cancer,” the GMA personality revealed on Twitter in 2021.

“She had surgery last month and this morning will begin chemotherapy.”

A few months after she announced the news, Roberts – who’s also a cancer survivor – revealed that Laign successfully completed her radiation treatments.

“Sweet Amber completing radiation, a very important phase of her treatment. We both thank you for all your well wishes and prayers. Proud of her and all fellow Thrivers for your grit and grace during a challenging time,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a video of Laign ringing a congratulatory bell.

We can’t wait to see Roberts and Laign tie the knot later this year.
