Heartstopper stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke have shared some new behind-the-scenes details about season three.
In less than two weeks, fans worldwide will finally be treated to the beloved series’ highly anticipated third entry.
Based on Alice Oseman’s hit webcomic, the new batch episodes will follow Charlie (Locke) as he tries to “tell Nick that he loves him,” while Nick (Connor) “also has something important to say to Charlie”.
The synopsis adds: “As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realise that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges.”
With the show’s premiere date right around the corner, the beloved talents opened up to GQ about all things Heartstoppper, including the seven-hour filming process for season three’s intimate scenes.
“We have had a really nice slow progression in terms of us as actors and as people getting to know each other and getting more comfortable with one another, starting with the kisses in season one and building up,” he explained.
“By season three, we know each other very well. So it meant that in terms of approaching those more raunch scenes, it still… It’s always something that’s slightly weird about it.”
While their close bond made filming the mature content easier, the duo still experienced some lighthearted hiccups – like the beard burn.
“We shot the sexy stuff for seven hours, which, you know, that’ll do it. We were both just knackered. Joe developed this huge scab on his chin,” The Wild Robot star revealed.
“Oh, it was horrible. We were kissing so much that it wasn’t healing, so it was getting worse and worse,” Locke added.
Towards the end of their interview, Connor teased his co-star and friend about the scab debacle, adding: “That was fun. That was fun to kiss.”
Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait too long to search for Locke’s kissing injury, with Heartstopper season three set for release on 3 October.
In a recent cover interview for GAY TIMES, Locke and Jenny Walser – who plays his on-screen sister Tori Spring –teased the scenes they’re most excited for fans to see.
“Charlie’s birthday party is cute. It’s fun because we had everyone there,” the Sweeney Todd star said.
“I love the bit in my birthday party where Imogen drinks the wine and says, “Is it sustainable? I’m trying to do my bit.” It’s so funny. That was a real improv moment.“
Walser echoed similar sentiments before shouting out the performances of Tobie Donovan, who plays Isaac, and Joesph Balderrama, who plays their on-screen dad.
“I think every single character has some real light and some real shade, more so than any other season,” she added.
