Kit Connor has finally responded to those very interesting Marvel Cinematic Universe rumours.

On 15 July, X users MyTimeToShineHello and The Cosmic Circus, both of which are known to be reliable tea-spillers, claimed that the rising star is being eyed to play Hulkling.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Hulkling is a Kree/Skrull hybrid who possesses shapeshifting abilities and super strength. His partner is Wiccan, the son of Scarlet Witch who, like his mother, has abilities such as chaos magic, flight, reality warping, telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, among others.

Since their first comic book appearance, the two characters have been widely hailed as “Marvel’s most prominent gay couple.”

The rumour also hit a particular note with fans due to Connor’s Heartstopper co-star, Joe Locke, making his MCU debut in the highly anticipated series Agatha All Along, where he is rumoured to be playing Wiccan/Billy Kaplan.

Since that fateful day, the 20-year-old talent has remained relatively mum on the rumours… until now.

During a recent interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Connor revealed he wasn’t privy to any MCU discussions.

“My friend did send me this rumour, no I’m not… not that I know of,” he exclaimed in between laughs.

After seemingly denying involvement in the massive film/TV franchise, he expressed excitement for Locke’s upcoming appearance in Agatha All Along.

“Well, I mean, my friend, again, my friend Joe is very heavily involved in Marvel, and he has a very exciting project coming up, and I wouldn’t want to cramp his style really, I don’t think,” he continued.

“I think he’s going to kill that, and I can’t wait to see that. I’m going to leave that to him for a good long while, I reckon. But who knows? Who knows what [will] happen.”

Despite Connor’s earnest response, some fans on social media didn’t buy his answer entirely.

“It’s also Marvel, and they have very strict contracts to where they can’t speak about until they’re allowed kinda like Andrew Garfield being in Spider-Man: No Way Home,” one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Another fan echoed similar sentiments, tweeting: “Y’all, it’s Marvel. He’s definitely not gonna be like, “Oh yeah, I’m in it See you later this year! They’re supposed to lie! Honestly, I’m gonna take this with a grain of salt because remember when Andrew Garfield was like “I’m not in no way home!?””

While the jury is still out on him playing Hulking – or if the character will even be introduced in the current phase – Connor is gearing up to be very busy over this next year.

In September, his new film, The Wild Robot, will be making its way to cinemas. In the animated sci-fi project, Connor will be voicing an orphaned goose named Brightbill.

The His Dark Materials actor is also set to star in the upcoming drama Warfare, Stefan van de Graaf’s horror film One of Us, and the romantic comedy A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow.

Lastly, Connor will be reprising his role as Nick Nelson in the highly anticipated third season of Netflix’s hit series Heartstopper.

Picking up where season two left off, the new batch of episodes will follow Charlie as he tries to “tell Nick that he loves him, while Nick “also has something important to say to Charlie”.

The synopsis adds: “As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realise that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges.”
