Kit Connor has revealed his animated crush, and fans (including us) couldn’t agree more with his choice.
On 24 October, the Broadway revival of Romeo + Juilet finally held its opening night after months of anticipation.
Directed by Sam Gold with music from Jack Antonoff, the Heartstopper star portrays Romeo alongside the talented Rachel Zegler as Juliet.
The official synopsis reads: “The youth are fucked. Left to their own devices in their parents’ world of violent ends, an impulsive pair of star-crossed lovers hurtle towards their inescapable fate.
“The intoxicating high of passion quickly descends into a brutal chaos that can only end one way.”
Before taking the stage as the iconic star-crossed lover, Connor hit the red carpet to spill all the tea about the show, his Broadway debut and even his animated crush.
During an interview with the popular TikTok duo Grant Gibbs and Ashley Gill (aka ‘A Twink and a Readhead’), Connor was asked which animated character he would fall for in a week.
“Like, you would give them the Romeo treatment,” Gibbs added.
After mulling over the question, the rising star chose Li Shang from the beloved 1998 film Mulan.

“Oh, who’s the um…the prince in Mulan,” Connor said before agreeing with Gill’s comment about the army general’s hotness.
Of course, it didn’t take long for fans on social media to praise Connor – who identifies as bisexual – for choosing a fellow bi-icon as his animated crush.
“He is so real for this. A true bicon,” one user on Twitter/X wrote.
Another fan echoed similar sentiments, writing: “All bisexuals share the same crushes I think.”
A third person tweeted: “A bi picking a bi is so bi coded I’m obsessed. *Cackles in bisexual*.”
Connor’s recent interview comes a few weeks after he made his highly anticipated Broadway debut in Romeo + Juliet.
Since appearing in the show’s previews, The Wild Robot star has received high praise from critics and attendees for his captivating performance as the hopelessly in love Montague and his viral pull-up scene.
While Gold’s Romeo + Juliet revival has a limited run, Connor will be starring as the titular character for the entirety of the production, which ends on 16 February 2025.
