“It’s sort of about women being underestimated.”
Reese Witherspoon has shared some minor plot details of the long-awaited second sequel to Legally Blonde.
The Oscar winning actress made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this week and asked the audience: “I mean, we’re definitely talking about it. Do you guys want to see Legally Blonde 3?”
After cheers from the audience, Reese told Ellen: “I mean, it’s sort of about women being underestimated and I think it’s a good idea – that things have changed, but not that much has changed!”
Witherspoon was confirmed to reprise her role as Elle Woods in the long-awaited sequel last year, and will have more of a presence behind-the-scenes as a producer, via her Hello Sunshine production company.
The original film, released in 2001, earned over $140 million at the worldwide box office.
Witherspoon’s performance – which is often considered her Hollywood breakthrough – received rave reviews from critics, ultimately earning her a Golden Globe nomination. How she didn’t win is beyond us.
The film tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who decides to enroll into law school in order to win back her ex-boyfriend. It also starred Selma Blair, Luke Wilson, Matthew Davis, Victor Garber, Jennifer Coolidge, Holland Taylor, Ali Larter and Linda Cardellini.
The box office success led to a sequel in 2003 – Red, White & Blonde – a direct-to-DVD spin-off, and a Broadway musical.
While we patiently wait for more details about Legally Blonde 3, watch one of the most iconic scenes from the original – the bend and snap. We’ve all done this to impress a guy, haven’t we? Elle Woods, ha impact!
