“I don’t think I would want to start from scratch and create a character.”

Jessica Lange has revealed if she’ll ever return to American Horror Story.

The legendary actress was the lifeblood of the first four seasons of the hit FX series, playing some of the show’s most iconic characters: Constance Langdon in Murder House, Sister Jude in Asylum, Fiona Goode in Coven, and Elsa Mars in Freak Show.

For her work on the series, Lange received universal acclaim and won her second and third Emmy Awards for her performances in Murder House and Coven. She made her long-awaited comeback in Apocalypse last year for two episodes.

But will she ever return in a regular capacity? “I don’t think so,” she told The Wrap, before explaining why she reprised her role as Constance in Apocalypse: “It was a very important time when I did that first season, Murder House.”

Lange said she wouldn’t want to “start from scratch” and create a new character.

She continued: “And also I think a lot of the actors that I was working with, people that I really love working with, like Sarah [Paulson] or Frances [Conroy] or Kathy [Bates]– I don’t know who’s in this new season, but I don’t think it would be the same.

“We were like the old-fashioned troupe of actors, just moving from one part to the other. That was part of what I really loved about doing it was you’d come back with a whole different story, different characters, but the same actors year after year.”

Yeah we know, we’re disappointed too. However, you won’t have to wait long for Lange to bless us with another iconic character, because she’s once again collaborated with Ryan Murphy on the upcoming satirical dark comedy, The Politician.

The series will follow Payton Hobart (Ben Platt), a wealthy student from California who is determined to become the President of the United States. First, he has to navigate “the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School”.

The first trailer dropped last month and went viral thanks to Lange’s character Rose Jackson summing up “the gay agenda”.

The Politician will arrive 27 September on Netflix. The highly-anticipated ninth season of American Horror Story, titled 1984, premieres tonight in the United States and will be available in the UK the following night on Fox at 10pm.

Set at a summer camp called Camp Redwood, 1984 will take inspiration from iconic slasher films such as Halloween, Sleepaway Camp, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

The campers will have to avoid horror movie tropes to survive the terror of a lunatic called Mr Jingles.

Gus Kenworthy is set to make his acting debut, and will be joined by previous AHS stars such as Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Cody Fern and Leslie Grossman, as well as newcomers Matthew Morrison, DeRon Horton, Zach Villa and Angelica Ross.

It will be the first season without Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson – who appeared as regulars in the first eight seasons – although the latter recently teased that she could “pop up” in some capacity. Read the full story here.
