Lady Gaga is coming to a cinema near you… again.
After starring in one of the most talked-about films of 2018, the critically-acclaimed musical-romance A Star Is Born, the pop superstar has already landed her second major big screen role.
According to Deadline, Gaga has signed onto a Ridley Scott-directed film about the murder of Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of the founder of the Italian fashion powerhouse, Guccio Gucci.
Gaga will reportedly star as Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio, who was tried and convicted of orchestrating her ex-husband’s assassination in 1995. She served 18 years in jail before being released in 2016.
The film is based on Sara Gay Forden’s book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour and Greed.
Gaga and director Ridley previously worked together for the singer’s Fame fragrance trailer.
It’s the first film role Gaga’s been attached to since her major big screen debut in last year’s A Star Is Born, which won her an Oscar for Best Original Song for hit single Shallow, and a nomination for Best Actress (she lost to Olivia Colman).
A Star Is Born received universal acclaim upon its release, with praise for Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s performances and Bradley’s direction, as well as the screenplay, cinematography and music.
During the film’s original cinematic release, it grossed over $425 million worldwide. Shallow also topped the charts in countries such as Australia, Austria, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Gaga previously had brief cameos in the films Machete Kills, Muppets Most Wanted and Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, and took the starring role as The Countess in Ryan Murphy’s hit TV series American Horror Story: Hotel.
