August Alsina has opened up about his sexuality in a new interview.

Back in 2022, the singer-songwriter made headlines when he revealed that he was dating a man during The Surreal Life season finale.

“This experience has taught me love in so many different forms and facets. And then what do you know? Love showed up, but in a new way,” he explained in a confessional.

“I want to share that and really honour the person that I love and loves me back and is teaching me so much about love and healing. I want to do that in front of the world because it defies all of the constructs one would say love is supposed to be or love should look like.”

Towards the end of his statement, a man entered the frame, resulting in the two sharing a hug.

Since his appearance on The Surreal Life, Alsina has remained relatively mum on the details of his sexuality… until now.

During a recent episode of Nick Cannon’s Counsel Culture podcast, the ‘Numb’ singer gave further insight into his identity and how he found love with another man.

“To be honest with you, bro, it’s not even me that’s opening my heart. It’s that power that’s higher than myself,” he explained.

“I always say that the greatest gift that God could have ever given me was exposure. To expose me to so many different kinds of people, places and things.”

Alsina went on to share his stance on labels, adding that love is complex to define.

“So it’s like, when people want you to define yourself as whether you’re gay, straight, bisexual, or whatever it is you was just talking about, love is much more complex than that and has much more depth,” he said.

“So for me, I’m just the kind of person that, because love is a language, I’m fluent in love when it speaks to me.”

Alsina’s recent interview came a few days after he made a cameo appearance on The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets, where he praised his season of the show for being a beautiful experience that gave him “liberty”.

“People have preconceived ideas about you before you ever walk into the building, and then you also have preconceived ideas about other people,” he explained to the new cast.

“Coming into this shit was helping me break down a bunch of lies about shit that I thought.”
