Each instalment in the eight episode series will be dedicated to one of Dolly’s iconic songs.
The country queen will serve as singer-songwriter, executive producer and will also star in the anthology series.
Its premise is highly similar to NBC’s two TV movies based on the Jolene singer’s career, Coat of Many Colors and its sequel, Coat of Many Colors: Circle of Love. Sam Haskell, producer behind both films, is involved in the upcoming anthology.
Shortly after its announcement, Dolly tweeted: “As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music.
“I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with @Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations.”
Dolly is the most honoured female country performer of all time, with 25 number one songs on the Billboard country charts, 41 career top-10 country albums, nine Grammy Awards, two Oscar nominations, three AMA’s, and 47 Grammy nominations.
She famously wrote the best-selling single by a woman in music history, I Will Always Love You, as well as Jolene, Coat of Many Colours, 9 to 5, Here You Come Again and Save the Last Dance For Me.

Throughout her career, she has been a staunch supporter for LGBTQ rights, and opened up about helping gay family members come out of the closet.
In 2016, Dolly told People Magazine: “Actually, I’ve had many people through the years who I have helped to feel good about themselves. I say, ‘You need to let people know who you are and you need to come on out.
“You don’t need to live your life in darkness – what’s the point in that? You’re never gonna be happy; you’re gonna be sick. You’re not gonna be healthy if you try to suppress your feelings and who you are.’”
She added: “I have a huge gay and lesbian following and I’m proud of ’em, I love ’em and I think everybody should be themselves and be allowed to be themselves whoever they are, whatever they are.”
