Purple Hearts star Nicholas Galitzine has joined AMC and Sky’s forthcoming LGBTQ+ period drama Mary & George.
According to Deadline, the young talent and Julianne Moore are set to star in the series as the titular characters – which is currently filming in the UK.
The limited eight-part series – which is based on a true story – is set to follow the influential Countess of Buckingham, Mary Villiers (Moore), who “moulded” her son George (Galitzine) to become the “powerful lover” of King James I.
“Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become one of the richest, most titled and influential mother and sons England had ever seen,” the logline adds.
British playwright DC Moore is set to write the forthcoming drama, with Liza Marshall’s Hera Pictures and Sky Studios signing on to produce the project. Acclaimed creative Oliver Hermanus has also been tapped as Mary and George’s lead director.
As of this writing, information surrounding the casting of King James I has yet to be announced.
Before the news made headlines, Galitzine seemingly teased his new role on 10 January when he Instagrammed a photo of himself in a trailer, writing: “Day 1.”
However days after his initial post, the young talent finally confirmed his exciting casting with another post on Instagram.

“So some of you are little detectives, but yes I will be joining @juliannemoore in @oliver_hermanus ‘Mary and George. Can’t wait to bring George to life in this incredible story,” he wrote on 14 January.
The next couple of years are set to be busy for Galiztine – who currently has three projects in the release pipeline.
Back in 2022, the Cinderella star filmed the highly anticipated film adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s popular novel Red, White & Royal Blue alongside The Kissing Booth’s Taylor Zakhar Perez.
In the upcoming film, Galitzine is set to play the gay British monarch Prince Henry, who gets into a complicated relationship with the First Son of the United States, Alex Claremont-Diaz (Perez).
The Handsome Devil star is also starring alongside Anne Hathaway in the upcoming romantic comedy The Idea of You – which is loosely based on Harry Styles and his One Direction days (per E! News).
We can’t wait to see the sure-to-be scandalous exploits of Mary and George in the AMC/Sky series.
