Love wins!
Niecy Nash has announced her marriage to singer-songwriter Jessica Betts.
On 30 August, the Emmy-winning comedian shared a stunning photo from her wedding ceremony on social media, telling fans that she’s now “Mrs Carol Denise Betts,” alongside the hashtag #LoveWins (Carol Denise is Nash’s birth name).
Betts also wrote: “I got a whole wife @niecynash1 #Bettsofbothworlds #LoveWins.”
Their nuptials attracted praise from stars such as Chika, Halle Berry, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Mock, Jordin Sparks, Mindy Kaling, Olivia Munn, Uzo Aduba, Taraji P. Henson and Sarah Paulson.
Nash’s marriage announcement is the first time she has publicly come out as part of the LGBTQ+ community. In her Instagram story, Nash acknowledged that her followers would be surprised, joking: “#PlotTwist.”
Although this is the first time their relationship has been made public, the stars have posted about one another in the past.
Betts once made an appearance on the TNT comedy-drama, Claws, where she performed a song at the wedding for Nash’s character.
Shortly after the episode, she shared a video of her and Nash with the caption: “I want to give a special shout to @niecynash1. This woman of God, I’m honored and blessed in her presence. She’s anointed and appointed.”
Nash also referred to Betts as her “homegirl”.
In October 2019, Nash and her husband of eight years, Jay Tucker, announced their divorce in a joint statement to Instagram.
“We believe in the beauty of truth. Always have,” they wrote. “Our truth is that in this season of our lives, we are better friends than partners in marriage.
“Our union was such a gorgeous ride. And as we go our separate ways now, we feel fortunate for the love we share—present tense. Thank you all out there for your support of us as a couple over the last eight years. We are grateful.”
