Omar Apollo has joined the cast of Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming romantic drama Queer.
On Tuesday (23 July), the singer-songwriter confirmed that he will making his acting debut in the highly-anticipated film, which also stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey.
“First movie with Luca, wow hot ass cast,” Apollo wrote on Twitter/X.
Queer will premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, which takes place between 28 August – 7 September, where it will compete for the Golden Lion.
Set in 1940s Mexico City, the film follows Lee (Craig), a man on the run from a drug bust in New Orleans. In Mexico, he becomes obsessed with Allerton (Starkey), a discharged serviceman from the American Navy.
As it’s an adaptation of William S. Burrough’s Queer, the film will presumably explore similar themes to the novel such as sex and drug abuse, so we expect this to be a heavy one.

Queer will mark Guadagnino’s second film of the year after Challengers, which stars Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist. Released to universal acclaim, the sports dramedy was praised for its queer subtext.
The director is best known to LGBTQIA+ audiences for his Academy Award-nominated drama Call Me By Your Name.
