RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni Anetra has announced that she is “stepping away from drag” but “only for a moment” after a “very difficult” year.
This follows the cancellation of her UK tour titled ‘YOU BETTER WALK THAT F**KING DUCK’ that was due to commence on 20 October in Dublin and travel across nine dates across the UK. It was set to end in London on 7 November.
In a full statement posted to her Instagram Stories on 19 October she wrote: “Hi all – I’m sorry to announce that I will not be touring with klub kids. This year has been very difficult for me in a lot of areas and there is a lot happening behind the scenes – that I’m not ready to speak about.”
Anetra added: “I know this will disappoint a lot of people but I am a human being and just need a moment to heal properly and return to u 100%.
“Please understand I love drag & wish I could be there with you all but I have reached the point of necessity. This isn’t me quitting, just stepping away from a moment to give my body what it needs.
“Please understand & stop the hate messages. “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell can you love somebody else?” – Isaiah.”
Anetra made her Drag Race debut and was catapulted into fame on season 15 alongside Amethyst, Aura Mayari, Irene Dubois, Jax, Loosey LaDuca, Luxx Noir London, Malaysia Babydoll Foxx, Marcia Marcia Marcia, Mistress Isabelle Brooks, Princess Poppy, Robin Fierce, Salina Estitties, Sasha Colby, Spice and Sugar.
Anetra was quick to become a fan favourite and a viral sensation when she produced arguably one of the best talent show performances of all time. The magical moment brought together a combination we never knew we needed, but now it’s here we cannot get enough of martial arts and lip-syncing.
The Las Vegas queen floored the panel and fans alike with her vogue and duck-walk heavy routine, before karate-chopping a plank of wood and smashing through another with an effortless roundhouse kick in heels. (ICONIC!)
One fan, at the time, said: “She just solved homophobic violence. All the gays doing self defense class now … I live … literally.”
Another fan posted: “This is absolutely one of the fiercest, most surprising, most entertaining, most hilarious talent show performances in #DragRace herstory. #Anetra SLAYED IT.”
Despite the staunch competition, Anetra’s gag-worthy performance saw RuPaul declare her the winner of the first ever challenge of season 15.
She ultimately placed runner-up behind Sasha Colby.
