Prime Video have finally issued an update (albeit a very small update) on the Red, White & Royal Blue sequel.
In a recent interview with Variety, Amazon MGM Studios chief Jennifer Salke was questioned on the status of the follow-up, which was officially confirmed earlier this year.
“We’re really excited. We are into the second movie and can’t wait,” Salke said. “The creative is awesome.”
Red, White & Royal Blue, released in July 2023, was met with critical acclaim and broke streaming records for Prime Video.
Earlier this week, the beloved rom-com was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Television Movie’.
“We’re so proud of the first film and getting the nomination. This morning, I was texting with [producers] Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter and Matt López, who are all just so proud,” continued Salke.
“And we obviously love the movie, so we’re committed to the follow-up and can’t wait to get it out there in the world.”
Based on Casey McQuiston’s acclaimed novel of the same name, Red, White & Royal Blue follows the romance between Alex (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the son of America’s first female president (Uma Thurman), and Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), a British prince.
The cast also includes Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Stephen Fry, Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth and Juan Castano.
At a special screening in May, director Matthew Lopez announced that Zakhar Perez and Galitzine will reprise their iconic characters for “another slice” of queerified UK-US relations.
Currently, details for the sequel are scarce, except for the return of the co-leads and Lopez, as well as McQuiston as co-writer.
