The royal family’s first ever same-sex wedding took place on Saturday (22 September), between Lord Ivar Mountbatten and James Coyle.
Mountbatten – cousin of Queen Elizabeth – captioned a series of photos on his Instagram account: “Well we did it finally! It was an amazing day despite the miserable British weather.
“Fabulous service conducted by Trish Harrogate, chief Registrar for Devon, who set the perfect but lighthearted tone for what is a serious occasion. The accompanying gospel choir were amazing.”
He also praised Bristol’s Teachers Rock Choir for their “superb singing”, and his three daughters, Ella, Alix and Luli.
“Most importantly a massive thanks to my 3 gorgeous girls for being so understanding and supportive, without their support this could never have happened!”
Finally, he thanked his husband James for being “just perfect”, followed by the hashtags: “#wedidit #wonderfulday #despitetherain.”
The intimate ceremony took place at Mountbatten’s country estate in Devon in front of a small group of family and friends.
His ex-wife Penny, who he was married to for seventeen years, gave him away.
