Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef are calling it quits after six years of marriage.
In a joint statement to PEOPLE, the former couple said: “We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years.
“Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on peace and friendship to continue the joint upbringing of our children, preserving the respect and love we have for each other.”
Ricky and Jwan, a Syrian-born Swedish painter, began dating in 2016 after meeting on Instagram.
They announced in January 2018 that they had tied the knot in a secret ceremony. At the time, Ricky told E! News: “I’m a husband, but we’re doing a heavy party in a couple of months.
“We exchanged vows, and we’ve swear [sic] everything, and we’ve signed all the papers that we needed to sign, prenups and everything.”
They welcomed their first daughter, Lucia Martin-Yosef, later that year. Their first son, Renn Martin-Yosef, was born in 2019. Together, they also raised Ricky’s twin sons Matteo and Valentino.
