The hotly anticipated twisted thriller Saltburn has landed on cinema screens, and the steamier moments have been capturing the imagination of international audiences.
In one scene, Barry Keoghan’s Oliver Quick watches Jacob Elordi’s character Felix Catton masturbate in a bathtub. Keoghan can be seen licking up Elordi’s semen around the tub’s drain, as his infatuation for him grows.
Elordi recently revealed his reaction to the scene to Variety: “I was like, ‘Thank God, it’s mine.’ I was very proud. I was very proud to have Barry Keoghan guzzling it like that.”
The remarks were relayed to Keoghan who quippingly said, “He doesn’t text me back or ring me back. It’s so weird. He’s pretending to like me. It’s weird, man.”
Directed by Promising Young Woman‘s Emerald Fennell, the psychological thriller is described as a “beautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire” that finds Keoghan obsessed with Elordi.
The synopsis reads: “Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton, who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.”
Fennell further revealed her intentions in the creation of Saltburn at the Los Angeles premiere: “We just want to make something that makes people feel something.
“I want to make stuff that you go and sit in a dark room full of strangers and you don’t know what you’re going to feel and you don’t know where you’re going to be probed. And everyone has a different take on it.”
She added: “Some people are screaming, some people are squealing. Some people are turned on, some people are freaked out and some are furious. Some people don’t really care. What you want is for people to spill out into the street and want to go and have a drink and talk about it.”
Saltburn’s ensemble cast also includes Rosamund Pike as Elsbeth Catton, Richard E. Grant as Sir James Catton, Alison Oliver as Venetia Catton, Archie Madekwe as Farleigh Start and Carey Mulligan as “Poor Dear” Pamela.
Saltburn is in cinemas now.
