It’s bad news for American Horror Story fans.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Sarah Paulson had declined to return for the upcoming ninth season after appearing as a main character for the show’s first eight instalments.
Throughout her time on the show, Paulson has won heaps of acclaim, earning five Primetime Emmy Award nominations (without a win – can you believe?) so her departure was met with shock and disappointment from fans.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, however, the star teased that she might “pop up” in the new season for a cameo.
“It’s a little bittersweet because I have a lot of friends who are still on the show,” she said. “I think it’s a really cool idea for the show this year. And you never know, I may pop up. You never know. No promises though.”
Especially given the departure of another fan favourite (Evan Peters) this year, viewers were left hoping for a Sarah Paulson cameo to give 1984 that classic American Horror Story feel, but it’s now been confirmed that won’t be happening.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star was speaking at the 2019 New Yorker Festival when she confirmed that she wouldn’t be making an appearance – not even a brief cameo.
While fans will be disappointed, it’s understandable given Sarah’s other commitments, which include another season of American Crime Story and a starring role in new Ryan Murphy project Ratched, a prequel to One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.
