The biggest gay romance of the year may receive a follow-up.
Good news folks! Luca Guadagnino’s highly-acclaimed adaptation of André Aciman’s gay romance novel Call Me By Your Name could receive the sequel treatment.
In an interview with The Guardian, the director said: “These characters are so fantastic, and I want to know what happens to them. The last 40 pages of the book tell you about 20 years in the life of Oliver and Elio.”
He even hinted at a potential shared universe with the novel’s characters: “I started to think about Michael Apted’s Up, and the cycle of films Truffaut devoted to the character of Antoine Doinel.
“And I thought, maybe it’s not a question of sequel, it’s a question of chronicling everyone in this film. I think seeing these characters growing in the bodies of these actors will be quite fantastic.”

Guadagnino initially teased us with a sequel last month when he told Gay Times: “Maybe in time we’ll be able to tell more stories about these people.”
When asked if he’s spoken to the author about a sequel, he added: “I’ve spoken to André about that and, yeah, André is up for it.”
Call Me By Your Name follows the love story between Elio (Timothée Chalet) and Oliver (Armie Hammer), an American academic who comes to stay at his family’s home in Italy during the summer of 1983.
Upon release, the movie received universal acclaim from fans and critics, receiving three Golden Globe nominations including Best Motion Picture, Best Actor (Chalamet), and Best Supporting Actor (Hammer).
