American Horror Story: 1984 continues to pay homage to horror classics.
The upcoming ninth season of FX’s hit horror anthology series is set to debut on 18 September, but as usual we have pretty much no idea what to expect, aside from the assumption that at least some of it will take place in the 1980s.
The few teasers we’ve seen so far have pointed towards a summer camp theme, with a generic-looking slasher movie villain killing off unsuspecting high school archetypes – from the jock, to the dream girl, to the nerd, to the prankster and the stoner.
We’ve also seen the influence of classic horror movies like Friday The 13th, Halloween and Sleepaway Camp, and the latest teaser appears to be inspired by classic 1960 psychological horror movie Psycho – in particular, that iconic shower scene.
Just like the majority of the show’s promotional material, it’s wise to treat this clip with a bit of suspicion. Early teasers and posters for American Horror Story are usually ambiguous, and often end up having nothing to do with the final product.
It’s also worth pointing out that none of the announced cast members have appeared in the teasers so far.
Gus Kenworthy is set to make his acting debut in 1984, and will be joined by previous AHS stars such as Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Cody Fern, Leslie Grossman, as well as newcomers Matthew Morrison, DeRon Horton, Zach Villa and Angelica Ross.
