Bella Ramsey has expressed an interest in playing The Joker.
Over the last few years, the 20-year-old superstar has wowed audiences with their dazzling performances in the HBO hit series The Last of Us, Game of Thrones and Catherine Called Birdy.
While Ramsey has mainly played characters that are viewed as the hero or aligned with the “good side,” they have recently revealed an interest in playing a villain.
In a recent interview with LADbible, the young talent admitted to wanting to play a “complex baddie”.
“I’ve not really played a villain yet. So I want to play a baddie. But like a really interesting, intricate, complex baddie,” they explained.
When the interviewer suggested The Joker as a potential character for them to play, the beloved talent swiftly agreed, stating: “Yeah, I was actually thinking that as well. The Joker, someone really interesting like that.”
Ramsey went on to say that they would also be interested in playing a villainous character like Hannibal Lecter.
Over the years, an array of celebrities have taken on the iconic Batman villain, including Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Mark Hamil in the animated Batman TV series.
In 2019, Joaquin Phoenix stepped into the role in the Todd Phillips-directed film Joker.
The Napoleon star will also be reprising his role in Joker: Folie à Deux, which is also set to feature Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.
Back in March, fans went wild over leaked footage of the music icon filming a scene as the popular character.
In the viral clips, Gaga can be seen walking up the stairs of the New York County Supreme Court before landing a surprise kiss on an unknown female bystander, who is holding a newspaper with pictures of Harley Quinn on the front page alongside the headline, “Crazy in Love”.
The title character’s face is also on the newspaper with a smaller headline reading, “Joker has a new love”. Joaquin Phoenix was also spotted on set as the Joker/Arthur Fleck.
According to social media detectives, the bystander shouts “you’re going to hell”, before Gaga lands the kiss and tells her, “Now we are both going to hell.”
Here’s to hoping Ramsey will make their own queer stamp on the unforgettable Gotham villain in the future.
