Years & Years fans get up! Olly Alexander is set to represent the UK at next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The beloved talent first revealed the news on 16 December during the grand final of Strictly Come Dancing.

“I can exclusively reveal I will be representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest,” he exclaimed, resulting in rapturous applause from the contestants.

When co-host Claudia Winkleman asked if Alexander could spill any tea on his highly anticipated appearance, the beloved talent promised it would be spectacular.

“Ah, what can I tell you? I’m planning it now. It’s going to be spectacular. I love Eurovision so much it’s a dream come true,” he said. “I’m just so, so, so, excited, it’s going to be great.”

While he refrained from giving details about the song, he did confirm to the BBC backstage that it’s not going to be a ballad.

Shortly after announcing the news, the It’s A Sin star took to Instagram to give further insight into his exciting new journey with a heartwarming post.

“This was very difficult to keep quiet. Omg! I’ve wanted to do this for a long, long time, and it feels like the right moment to start releasing music under my own name,” he wrote.

“I’m determined to give it everything I’ve got! I shall put on an excellent and unforgettable performance for you all! Let’s do this!”

Alexander’s post also included a video of him receiving the news and a selfie with music producer Danny L Harle – who recently confirmed that he’ll be co-writing and producing the singer’s Eurovision track.

“It’s a big one, produced + co-written by me,” Harle revealed on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Due to Loreen’s history-making win during Eurovision 2023, next year’s competition is set to take place in Malmö, Sweden, at the Malmö arena.

This will be Malmö’s third time hosting the long-running competition and Sweden’s seventh time.

“We’re excited to be returning to this vibrant and dynamic city, which has demonstrated it has the venues and infrastructure that are perfect for staging the world’s largest live music event,” Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor Martin Österdahl revealed in July.
