Could we be any more excited for this?
Pop icon Lady Gaga will make her big screen debut next month in A Star Is Born, a re-re-remake which follows ageing musician Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) as he discovers struggling artist Ally Rose (Gaga) and nurtures her into a star.
A series of four brand new clips have been shared online ahead of the movie’s release next month, and if the hype hadn’t got to you already, we feel like these will convince you that the Oscars-buzz surrounding it is justified.
The first clip presents a conversation between Jackson (Bradley Cooper) and Ally (Lady Gaga) shortly after they first meet in the gay bar where Ally performs.
“Almost every single person that I’ve come in contact with in the music industry has told me that my nose is too big,” Ally says in the clip, an insecurity which Gaga revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she faced during the beginning of her own career.
A second clip sees Ally sing a song called Shallow for Jackson for the first time. The new track was co-written by Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt, and appeared as a power ballad in the first official trailer for the movie.
“I think you might be a songwriter,” Jackson tells Ally after she sings for him.
The third clip focuses on Cooper’s character Jackson, as he performs an original song called Maybe It’s Time on stage, before Sam Elliott’s industry veteran Bobby Maine offers some musical advice to the characters.
“Music is essentially 12 notes between any octave. 12 notes and the octave repeats. It’s the same story told over and over. All that an artist can offer the world is how they see those 12 notes,” he says.
The fourth and final clip puts Jackson’s reliance on alcohol to get by front and centre, as he receives a pep talk from close friend Noodles (Dave Chappelle) about Ally being a “way out” of his situation.
“You float out at sea and then one day you find a port, say ‘I’m gonna stay here for a few days’, a few days becomes a few years, and then you forget where you were going in the first place, but you realise you don’t really give a shit because you like where you’re at,” he says.
A Star Is Born is out in UK and US cinemas on 5 October.
