Drag Race star Jinkx Monsoon has opened up about her iconic Snatch Game performance on All Stars 7.
Back in May, Mama Ru and company released the highly anticipated all-winners season of Drag Race All Stars.
Throughout its 12-episode run, former champions Jaida Essence Hall, Jinkx Monsoon, Monét X Change, Raja, Shea Couleé, Trinity the Tuck, Yvie Oddly and The Vivienne battled it out for the coveted crown and Queen of All Queens title.
While all the competitors delivered unforgettable moments throughout the season, Jinkx’s Snatch Game performance as the legendary Judy Garland became a fan favourite – with some declaring it as the greatest impersonation in Drag Race herstory.
In a recent interview with Vulture’s Good One podcast, the All Stars 7 winner opened up about how she prepared for her gag-worthy performance.
“Well, based on the information that they gave us, I had a good idea that we should probably go in with two very strong characters,” she explained. “But I was already going to go in with like three or four because I’m a Virgo, a perfectionist, and I’m riddled with anxiety.
“Snatch Game is one of my favourite challenges to watch and participate in, so I was very excited at the challenge of playing two characters.”

Before landing on Judy Garland and Natasha Lyonne, the season five winner revealed that she considered other impersonations, including Jennifer Coolidge and Meryl Streep.
“I was really strongly considering Jennifer Coolidge, but she has been done and drag queens do her to death,” she explained.
“When I was trying to do Meryl outside of the world of Death Becomes Her, I never got past the point of just making noises. I switched from Meryl to Jude because it was three days before check-in when I realised, ‘I still have a fully non-verbal Meryl.'”
Fortunately, Jinkx’s portrayal was an instant hit with fans due to her hilarious dialogue and jokes relating to her season five run – including her comical “Broom” answer.
When asked about the aforementioned reference, the Portland-based queen revealed the joke was meant for her fellow Drag Race sister Alaska.
“Alaska and I were constantly doing impressions of Alyssa Edwards’ [Snatch Game] impersonation of Katy Perry that was so baffling that we couldn’t help but just make a whole character based on just that impression,” she told the news outlet for context.
Jinkx went on to say that Alyssa’s distinct Katy Perry voice resulted in her “Broom” response in All Stars 7.
“When Ru asks Alyssa, ‘Have you ever kissed a girl?’ and Alyssa went, ‘Ru, never!’ [it became] ‘Bru,’ and then it just devolved into ‘Broom, neber,’ it was the tiniest little Easter egg, pretty much just for Alaska.”
