Drag Race superstar Cynthia Lee Fontaine has shared an update about her hip replacement surgery.
On 6 November, the beloved performer revealed that she needed to replace both hips after being diagnosed with avascular necrosis.
“Sadly, I have been dealing with a lot of pain in my hips since last year. After x-rays and MRI, I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis ( bones do not receive blood, started getting damaged and causing a lot of pain,” she wrote on Instagram.
“This was due to exposure to my chemo treatment and also steroids (Pain Killers) back in the days when I was battling cancer. That’s why I need hip replacement surgery on both sides.
“I’ll be not working for almost 6 months due to recovery. I promise me, and my Boyfriend will keep you all updated. Thank you always for your love and support! And if I kick cancer in the Cucu, this is easy to beat!
Towards the end of her post, she revealed that she was scheduled to have her left hip replaced on 9 November and her right hip in January 2023.
The day after receiving her first surgery, the Drag race icon took to Twitter to update fans on the procedure and her recovery.
“[Hip placement] left side was a huge success! Dr Koening did an amazing job. Thanks to all the staff at Dell Seaton Medical center for everything! Also, thank you all for your love, support, and donations,” she said in a video via Twitter.

Back in 2016, Fontaine won the hearts of TV viewers for her stint on RuPaul’s Drag Race season eight. During her time on the series, the beloved performer earned the title of Miss Congeniality while also introducing the world to her iconic “CuCu” catchphrase.
After appearing in season eight, Fontaine was diagnosed with stage 1 liver cancer but was able to go into remission after undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
She then went on to compete on the ninth season of Drag Race as its surprise 14th queen before sashaying away after episode six.
Before her first hip surgery, Fontaine spilt some behind-the-scenes Drag Race tea regarding the judges.
“Ok they have huge iPads,” she wrote online in response to one fan who asked what the judges have on their table as they watch the runway and critique the contestants.
“On those iPads, they have all the pics ( taking prior the runway taping ) of the look themes of the episode. With e pens !”
She also revealed that RuPaul wears flip-flops on the judges’ panel and that “the rest of the judges” are asked to wear comfortable shoes as well.
We can’t wait to see Fontaine back on her feet and performing for the world again.
