Drag Race: The queens bring haute couture fashion to the runway in episode 5

The queens brought their fashion expertise on the latest episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15. 

Spoilers ahead

For this week’s maxi-challenge, the remaining 13 queens were asked to split into three different fashion houses to “turn home decor into haute couture.” 

“Team one will design for the House of Kressley using Carson’s town and country chic furnishings,” Ru explained. 

“Team two will design for the House of Matthews, using Ross’ sunny Palm Springs home decor. Team three will design for the House of Visage using home decor inspired by everyone’s favourite Jersey Girl.” 

Ru also reminded the queens that each house must produce unique looks that work together as a cohesive collection.

After being randomly assigned into their groups, the queens gathered up their materials before heading to the workroom to debrief.

While the ladies worked on their haute couture designs, Ru returned to the workroom to get an update from each house. 

Although each group presented solid ideas, House of Visage struggled to convince Ru of their overall regal theme. 

“Ru’s a little hesitant about our concept. So that has me feeling a little nervous,” Luxx Noir London said in a confessional.

Like in past seasons, the design challenge was a struggle for a few of the queens, like Malaysia Babydoll Fox and Spice, who had no previous sewing experience. 

With their painted faces and buzzing energy, the three houses headed to the main stage to showcase their haute couture looks. 

After strutting down the runway, the top and bottom queens of the week received critiques from Ru and the judges, including guest judge Janelle Monáe.

While Luxx, Robin Fierce, Sasha Colby, and Maylasia were praised for their showstopping looks, Jax, Amethyst and Salina EsTitties, struggled to impress the panel. 

In the end, Luxx was crowned the winner of the maxi-challenge, leaving Amethyst and Salina in the bottom two. 

To the funky beat of Janelle’s track, Q.U.E.E.N., the two drag talents delivered a fiery lip sync performance full of comedy, sassy choreography and drama.

After the lip sync concluded, Ru asked Salina to stay and Amethyst to sashay away. 

“To hear RuPaul tell me to sashay away is… it’s hard. I’ve accomplished so much in my 2 1/2 years of doing drag, and I’m ecstatic to see what I can do in five or ten years from now,” Amethyst said in her post-elimination confessional. 

On next week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15, the queens will be creating “golden gal girl groups.” Hacks star Megan Stalter will also be stepping in as guest judge.
