When it comes to curating your wardrobe it’s time to step out the confinements of gendered labels, and embrace and invest in pieces based on their construction, fit and mostly importantly on how they make you feel. Whether that’s from the men’s department or women’s, it no longer matters.
This neutral focus trickles into the Spring/Summer 19 collection from the House of Maison Margiela.
Under the creative direction of queer pioneer John Galliano, Margiela have unified their traditional women’s and men’s collections and unveiled one co-ed collection; curating genderless pieces.
The narrative and process of breaking down the gender binary within the fashion industry, is demonstrated through the house reworking the timeless wardrobe staple, the trench coat.
The classic Mackintosh ‘Mac’ is given a perfect unconventional makeover with an electric pop of bubble-gum pink, that instantly adds a playful yet sleek touch to tradition. While underneath the colourful glamour the garment’s notorious rubberised fabric ensures durability and performance is not sacrificed.
