All of Us Strangers: Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal’s chemistry takes centre stage in new photos

Searchlight Pictures has released new images from Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal’s LGBTQIA+ film All of Us Strangers.

On 26 January 2024, cinema-goers in the UK will finally be treated to the highly anticipated fantasy drama written and directed by acclaimed creative Andrew Haigh.

Based on the novel Strangers by Japanese novelist Taichi Yamada, the film follows screenwriter Adam (Scott) as his monotonous everyday life is forever changed after he has a chance encounter with his mysterious neighbour Harry (Mescal),

The official synopsis reads: “As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up, and the childhood home where his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell), appear to be living, just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.”

Over the last few months, the film has generated heaps of buzz among LGBTQIA+ movie enthusiasts and received a warm reception at various film festivals.

As of this writing, All of Us Strangers holds a score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising the film’s moving story, Mescal and Scott’s chemistry and Haigh’s directing.

While everyday moviegoers will have to wait a couple more months until its wide release, Searchlight Pictures have released new images from the film to hold viewers over.

In two of the 11 snapshots, Mescal and Scott’s characters ooze chemistry as they stare lovingly into each other’s eyes.

We also get a new look at Foy and Bell’s characters, who seem to be dealing with the emotional repercussions of their mysterious return.

Lastly, the new set of photos features steamy shots of Mescal and Scott shirtless.

The recent All of Us Strangers news comes a few weeks after Haigh opened up about the importance of casting openly gay actor Scott as the film’s lead character.

“Andrew, I’d liked for a long time, and I felt like this was kind of a perfect role for him,” he explained during a Q&A, per The Hollywood Reporter.

“And I’m not one of those people that say you have to be queer to play queer roles, but it was important to me in this case. Because there’s so much nuance that I was trying to get to, I didn’t want to have an endless conversation with somebody who’s trying to understand it.”

Elsewhere in the Q&A, Haigh revealed that the film was very personal for him due to it featuring his childhood home.

“Anybody that knows me would know that [the film] is pretty personal. For example, I shot the film in my childhood home, so the house was my old house, and I hadn’t been back there for 45 years,” he explained.

“When I wrote the script, I had that house in mind, and then I went back there, went to the door, and they said, ‘Yeah, okay you can film here.’”

All of Us Strangers is scheduled for release on 22 December in the US and 26 January in the UK.
