Bros star Billy Eichner has revealed which hunky actor almost appeared in the LGBTQ+ romantic comedy.
On 30 September, the history-making film debuted in the US to critical acclaim and even earned an 89% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film, which is the first gay rom-com from a major Hollywood studio, has also been lauded for its entirely LGBTQ+ principal cast – including Jim Rash, Bowen Yang, Guillermo Díaz, Ts Madison, Miss Lawrence, Harvey Fierstein, Symone and Benito Skinner, among others.
Written by Billy Eichner and Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors), with the latter also directing, Bros follows singletons Bobby Lieber (Eichner) and Aaron (Luke Macfarlane) as they navigate their commitment issues and romantic feelings.
While the film has been praised for its landmark casting and heartwarming love story, Bros has also gained recognition for its array of cameos from some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
However, one surprising cameo from a certain hunky actor failed to make the cut due to scheduling conflicts.
In a recent interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, Eichner revealed that Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth was set to make an appearance in the film.
“Liam Hemsworth wanted to do a cameo in the movie, and he was supposed to, and we had a whole Zoom meeting with him, and he was lovely and charming and funny, but then COVID hit again, and he couldn’t travel from Australia to just do one scene in Bros, unfortunately,” Eichner revealed.
Elsewhere in the interview, the Difficult People star shed some light on the role Hemsworth would have played and his high-profile scene partner.
“In the movie, Luke and I go see a movie called The Treasure Inside, which is a fictional movie about, you know, two closeted frontiersmen during the California gold rush of 1812 – sort of indicative of the many movies about tragic, closeted men that we get in Hollywood real straight actors play them,” he explained.
“We were going to shoot scenes from that movie, and Liam was going to be one of the tragic closeted frontiersmen. We never ended up shooting those scenes, but at one point, we were going with Liam and Nick Jonas,” he added.
Even though Hemsworth was unable to make an appearance in Bros, the film still contained some notable cameos, including Will and Grace star Debra Messing, Ben Stiller and more.
Bros is set to be released in the UK on 28 October.
