A romantic new clip from Gael García Bernal and Bad Bunny’s LGBTQIA+ film Cassandro has arrived.
Since its first screening at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, the wrestling biopic has earned rave reviews from critics.
Set in the 1980s, the film follows the real-life story of openly gay wrestler Saúl Armendáriz, aka Cassandro (Bernal), and his journey to becoming one of the most successful exóticos in lucha libre wrestling.
The film also stars Roberta Colindrez, Perla De La Rosa, Joaquín Cosío, Raúl Castillo, El Hijo del Santo and music superstar Bad Bunny – who’s playing Bernal’s on-screen love interest Felipe.
Back in April, the ‘I Like It’ rapper shared details about his queer role and kissing the Coco actor.
“It was cabrón [badass]. My first kiss for a movie, and it was with a man. That’s the penalty I get for being with so many women during my life,” he told Time Magazine.
“If you’re acting, you’re being someone you’re not. That’s the fun part. So when they asked me for that, I said, ‘Yes, I’m here for whatever you want.’ I think it was very cool; I didn’t feel uncomfortable. It’s part of acting. It’s part of what I’m doing.”
Since his interview, fans have eagerly awaited the release of Cassandro –which is now playing in select theaters and set to stream on 22 September via Prime Video.
In celebration of its release, Amazon Studios dropped a new set of clips from the drama – including a steamy moment between Bernal and Bad Bunny’s characters.
At the start of the 26-second sneak peek, Saúl and Felipe (Bad Bunny) cautiously share an intimate kiss before the latter separates.
“I really can’t do this,” he says, resulting in the openly gay wrestler replying: “It’s okay, don’t worry. Don’t freak out. It’s okay. I’m sorry. See you around, stud.”
In another clip, the pair flirt with one another while they talk about wrestling and their interests.
“I’m not really into lucha libre. I prefer strip clubs, stuff like that,” Felipe explains.
In response, Saúl expresses his disappointment, stating: “It’s too bad because it’s a beautiful show.”
Towards the end of the clip, the aspiring lucha libre admits his attraction to Felipe before revealing what his alter ego Cassandro would say to him.
“If Cassandro were here, he’d tell you many things. For example, that he wants to kiss you,” Saúl admits, resulting in a shocked reaction from Felipe.
