Jonathan Bailey has joined the cast of the upcoming movie adaptation of Wicked, where he will play Prince Fiyero.

The casting was confirmed by the films director, Jon M. Chu, who’s best known for directing Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights.

Chu took to Twitter on 21 September to make the announcement.

He wrote: “He’s perfect, they’re perfect. They’d be perfect together. Born to be forever….. I am too excited to pretend this hasn’t been happening. We have a Fiyero!!!!”

Bailey is a great fit for the part and has musical experience from his work on shows such as The Last Five Years and Company.

He won Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical at the Olivier Awards for his performance.

In a nod to his Wicked characters song in the show, Dancing Through Life, the Bridgerton star captioned his latest Instagram post “Dancing through,” with emojis of the Canadian flag and a green heart.

The first instalment of the adapted musical is slated for a Christmas 2024 release.

Meanwhile the second part is due to be released a year later.

Bailey joins a star-studded cast including Ariana Grande as Glinda, and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.

Wicked portrayed the story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz, and how she turned into the villainous witch we know her as.

Stephen Schwartz, the original composer of the musical is said to be adapting the screenplay with the original author for the show, Winnie Holzman.

The 34-year-old, who starred in season two of Netflix phenomenon Bridgerton opposite Simone Ashley, has a number of exciting projects in the works.

Alongside filming season 3 of the Netflix and Shondaland hit, he was recently announced as playing Matt Bomer’s lover in limited series Fellow Travellers.

Bailey will also star opposite Felicity Jones in the upcoming comedy, Maria.
