Bimini caught up with GAY TIMES about their “incredible” journey from performing in East London to becoming one of the country’s most well-known drag artists.
They swiftly became an unstoppable force in the industry after rising to fame on the second season of Drag Race UK, with walking in London Fashion Week and releasing a book among their many achievements.
Speaking to GAY TIMES on the green carpet of GAY TIMES Honours sponsored by Meta Quest in November, Bimini said they are “so grateful” for the things they have been able to do since appearing on the show.
“A lot of people always say to me, ‘Do you ever look back?’ and I don’t often look back,” they explained. “I’m always kind of like, ‘Okay, where are we going next?’ but I’m really happy with what I’ve managed to achieve and I hope that it opens doors for people because sometimes when I look back and think about things I’m like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I did that, that’s insane!’”
The star said they always feel privileged to “see queers come together” at the events and shows they get to attend, especially given their passion for all things fashion.
“I love seeing all the looks, the fashion,” they further stated. “Queers know how to dress, not all of them, but a lot of them do! And we like to take risks because we’ve always had to. So, I love seeing what people are wearing and it’s always good to be part of that.”
Bimini’s platform has grown exponentially in recent years and they frequently use it to discuss important issues surrounding things such as gender and veganism, among other things.
“There’s always pressure and sometimes, as queers, because we’ve already failed at being society’s expectation, we kind of have that thing in our minds,” they continued.
“I have a lot of imposter syndrome, it’s a natural thing, but I think just being part of something like this is incredible.”
After winning the GAY TIMES Honour for Drag Hero in 2021, Bimini presented London Trans+ Pride the Honour for Future Fighter presented by Hinge at the 2022 ceremony.
