Ella Vaday teased the “utter carnage” fans can expect from her upcoming Christmas tour with Kitty Scott-Claus and why she wants to start “breaking away from Drag Race” as she explores new opportunities.
The beloved queen was an instant fan favourite on the UK edition’s third season of the show, ultimately finishing as a runner-up and becoming one of the few contestants to win four challenges in a single season as she did so.
Speaking to GAY TIMES on the green carpet of GAY TIMES Honours sponsored by Meta Quest exactly a year since the finale aired on BBC Three, Ella says the last 12 months have been “non-stop” in the best way possible.
“It’s literally been so incredible and like no other year, as you can imagine,” she adds. “I’ve toured Australia, I’ve been to Europe, I’ve toured every city in the country, as well as Scotland, Ireland and Wales.”
The ‘beast from Dagenham East’ explains that she has done “all the things I could have ever hoped to do” and feels her time on the show is “just the beginning” as her future is about focusing on the things she wants to achieve.
One of these things will be touring the UK and Ireland with Kitty as part of their ‘Christmas Cracker’ tour.
Kicking off in Glasgow on 11 December, the duo will visit a number of cities including Manchester, Cardiff and Dublin before climaxing together in London.
“So you’ve just got me and Kitty having a riot around the country, in a nutshell,” Ella teases of what we have to look forward to. “Me and Kitty are best mates, we talk every single day. We’re just going to go out there and have a laugh. The audience will be involved, we’ll be singing Christmas songs – just utter carnage.”
Planning the show has been a smooth process because the two “compliment each other so well,” she says, adding: “I’m so dry and sarcastic and she’s out there screaming all the time, but we think the same and we have the same sense of humour and that’s the best thing and why we work so well. We’re like Bonnie and Clyde.”
The pair’s friendship will come as no surprise to Drag Race UK viewers, as the show made it clear that they had grown incredibly close by the time filming wrapped.
Their relationship has, however, got a new element since the two left the Werk Room given that they now work together professionally – though Ella explains that it’s “just the same” as it has ever been.
“The thing is, we don’t have to worry about what we’re going to produce – we’ve not necessarily planned it all yet – but we know it will be fine because we work so well together,” she tells GAY TIMES.
“At the London Palladium we hosted the London dates and we didn’t really plan it, we just had a laugh and we got the audience going and having a laugh is what it’s all about.
“If you’re best mates with someone, you know what they’re going to say, you know what they’re thinking, so it’s nice. Business and pleasure!”
Looking to the future, Ella says that “it is about breaking away from Drag Race” and exploring new opportunities beyond the franchise.
“Drag Race is a great platform to get you onto different things and I don’t know where I’m heading, but I’ve never known in my whole life, so I’m just enjoying the moment and just seeing what comes,” she explains.
“I’m looking forward to the new year because it’s going to be a chance for me to just reconnect with myself because I think when you do drag all the time, you lose yourself a little bit.
“So, I’ve already been in the gym for the last four weeks, I’ve lost weight, I feel better, I’m healthier.
“Next year’s all about focusing on what I want to do, but also just getting myself healthy physically and mentally because it takes its toll, being famous like me!”
