Grag Queen is the recipient of the GAY TIMES Honour for Latin American Icon, sponsored by Vevo.
Last year, the drag queen memorably brought the “Brazility” to the first-ever season of Queen of the Universe, World of Wonder’s new competition series that collects some of the world’s fiercest drag vocalists to compete for a cash prize of $250,000.
After six episodes with powerhouse vocals from British, Indian, French, Italian, Mexican, Australian, Chinese, Danish and Brazilian talent, Grag Queen emerged supreme and was named the inaugural Queen of the Universe.
With $250,000 converting to just under 1.4 million Brazilian Real, Grag subsequently became a millionaire. Speaking with GAY TIMES after her win, the star said: “I’m totally a millionaire! Can you smell the coin?”
She added: “I think Grag Queen, that girl with a wig, she deserves it! I can go to the doctor whenever I want, to the dentist, I don’t have to be on my knees in the supermarket looking for the low prices! It’s changed a lot.”
Grag has since amassed half a million Instagram followers, over two million TikTok followers and received praise for pop anthems such as Party Everyday, Bota Fé and YOU BETTA.
For GAY TIMES Honours, Grag has teamed up with Leland – the singer-songwriter behind some of Drag Race’s most iconic anthems such Break Up Bye Bye and UK Hun? – on the pulsating club banger Future Is Queer.
“Bring the binary down / Bad bitch are my pronouns / Get it right or we’ll burn it to the ground,” Grag sings on the pulsating track, which was written and recorded as the official theme of GAY TIMES Honours 2022.
In the chorus, Grag declares: “The future is pussy powerful / And it’s critical / Penetrate your mind and ear / The future is queer.”
Future Is Queer is now available on iTunes and streaming services.
