LGBTQ+ charity Just Like Us has announced a partnership with Birmingham Pride that will see school students getting involved in Pride for the first time.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Birmingham Pride, secondary schools in the region have been invited to learn about the city’s LGBTQ+ history.
Students are invited to attend an event called ‘Brunch and Learn’ where they will have the opportunity to hear from a range of speakers including the Birmingham Pride team, Eva Echo and other local LGBTQ+ figures.
After learning about the history of Birmingham Pride, students and teachers will have the opportunity to join the milestone Pride parade.
Dominic Arnall, Chief Executive of Just Like Us, says: “We are really excited to launch this partnership with Birmingham Pride and help more secondary school students learn about the incredible diverse history of their wonderful city.
“Research shows that LGBTQ+ inclusive education is linked to pupils having better mental health, and this schools event will bring their learning to life in a very special way.”
Birmingham Pride takes place on 24 and 25 September 2022.
Paralympic athletes Jude Hamer and Lauren Rowles MBE, as well as Jayne Crabbe, are also set to make an appearance during the Pride celebrations.
