Allasheed Allah will face up to three years in jail.
A man who assaulted a lesbian in a homophobic attack last November has pleaded guilty to the hate crime. Allasheed Allah now faces up to three years in jail.
The incident took place on a subway train travelling through Queens, New York. Court documents say that after the victim leaned in to kiss a female friend on the cheek, Allah shouted at them “Kiss her again, you dyke bitch.”
When the women got off the train, Allah followed them and struck the victim in the face and the chest. He then shoved her into a pole, before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to hospital, where it was confirmed she had received a fractured spine. She has since made a full recovery.
Allah was identified by a tipster, after they recognised him from a police photo, and he was arrested on 13 December. He was told on Wednesday (3 October) that he faced between one to three years in jail. He will be sentenced next month (7 November).
In a statement, Acting District Attorney John Ryan said: “This kind of hate-inspired assault is intolerable and we won’t stand for it here in Queens County – the most diverse county in the country.
“The defendant will go to prison as a result of this vicious attack.”
Earlier this year, a Brooklyn man was arrested for attempted murder after he stabbed a gay man in the neck. On 22 June, Dash is alleged to have approached a man and his gender non-conforming partner at their apartment. He is said to have told them: “I’m glad I know where you live, because I don’t like gay people.”
Dash is said to have harassed the pair, and threatened them with a knife before they closed the door. However, the pair later went to find Dash as they recognised him from the area.
As the pair went back to their building, Dash is said to have approached them and stabbed the man in the back of the neck. The victim suffered a six-inch wound, which partially severed the vertebral artery.
Dash faces up to 25 years in prison for the attempted murder.
