Metropolitan Police officers have been urged to stop taking part in G-A-Y’s Porn Idol night where contestants strip on stage for money.
“It makes it awkward for the staff at the location to then have to deal with you when you are next on shift attending the venue to carry out official duties,” said an email sent to a West End policing unit by a senior officer, according to The Times.
Officers at the Central West Basic Command Unit (BCU) were warned that “CCTV will be viewed and officers spoken to” should they continue participating in the night, which takes place on Thursdays at Heaven nightclub in Charing Cross.
Porn Idol sees members of the public get naked on stage for a cash prize, with celebrity guest judges determining the winner.
It recently made national headlines when Adele made a surprise appearance and pole danced alongside Drag Race UK star Cheryl Hole.
The warning comes after Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) put the force in special measures due to the “substantial and persistent concerns” it had about the Met, including a series of scandals and failures to properly record crimes.
“An Inspector from the West End Proactive Partnership Team has sent an email to staff within the Met’s Central West BCU after a matter was reported to the Met’s Licensing officers,” a spokesperson for the Met Police told GAY TIMES.
“There is no suggestion of any unlawful act having taken place. However officers were reminded of the need to uphold standards while off duty, especially when identifying themselves as police officers.”
